Some of us just dig Halloween. What can be better? Sure, Christmas is full of good tidings and presents; Easter has the egg hunts and candy; Valentine’s Day has candy and gifts; but no holiday is like Halloween. You get to dress up and act out of character the whole day if you want to, and no one will care.
If you’re really into Halloween, you probably will hit every haunted house in a fifty mile radius, decorate your home so the trick-or-treaters have a little adventure there, and of course, you strive to have the best costume possible.
And the costume is usually where people get hung up. If you are one that really loves the scariest holiday of the year, you want to be something different every year. You want try on a persona you haven’t tried before, delve into a different fantasy, and you absolutely don’t want to be just another Captain Jack Black, witch, or gunslinger.
You want to wow your admirers and yourself. Buying a stock costume isn’t good enough for you, unless it’s unusual, like a Green Man costume. Even if you do a version of a popular character, you want it to stand out, put your own flourishes in, or make it as authentic as possible.
If you happen to work in a place that celebrates Halloween, then you probably have costume contests. And your goal is to win that contest. You aren’t going to do that with a white sheet. You need personality, exceptional concepts and presence, unconventional scariness or bearing.
You have to set the stage for the day because it’s not like any other day. Your costume is a huge part of the character you want to be for the day. And every year is a new adventure. Taking the time to plan, order a greenman suit, or pull parts together is essential to making a great costume. Some people plan for their day months in advance.
Put on your scary and inventive cap and get going. This Halloween should be even better than last year!
